Bags of Gold

bag of gold.jpg

In the parable of the talents (bags of gold) as told by Jesus, a wealthy man leaves three of his servants in charge of a portion of his wealth before he goes away on a trip. The master returns to find that two of the servants had been good stewards with what had been entrusted to them while one had been lazy and unproductive. To the two who made good use of what they were given, the master said, "well done, good and faithful servant!" but the lazy servant was reprimanded and banished.

Just like the servants in the parable, each of us will one day be called on to give an account of what we did with the things entrusted to us. Time, money, skills, gifts, good and bad experiences, our circle of influence are things that have been entrusted to us with an expectation of good stewardship. Just like the master in the parable, Jesus Christ is going to return to settle accounts with His servants.

Fixed Focus was created to help people be the best stewards they can be. We love to help anybody trying to make this world a better place. We also love to share the stories of good and faithful servants out there doing their thing. We hope you will check out the examples below and be inspired to make the most of every opportunity to be the best steward possible with your own bags of gold...

David Francisco

David Francisco suffered a severe spinal cord injury when struck by a car while riding his bicycle. The impact of the collision tore his spinal cord and doctors told him he would never walk again. David was in the hospital when the driver who hit him had a court appearance to face charges but he sent his dad to the hearing to ask the judge to drop the charges.  He said he wanted to bring light into the world and so "it just made sense to forgive."

Pain isn't something that many of us would consider a gift, but it definitely can be something we can use just like money or talent. David's accident captured a huge audience and he seized the opportunity to demonstrate grace.

J. Warner Wallace

J. Warner Wallace is a former atheist turned Christian who will blow your mind with scientific evidence for Intelligent Design in the natural world. After years of using scientific techniques to solve cases as a homicide detective Wallace decided to apply those same techniques to analyze Intelligent Design (Creation). His goal was to disprove the existence of a sovereign creator. Wallace actually discovered irrefutable evidence that biological molecular machines appear to be designed rather than random. This led him to study the evidence further and ultimately become a believer in God. He has since become an acclaimed professor of Christian Apologetics. In his Cold-Case Christianity podcast he explains how God has been telling us long before Charles Darwin came along that the complexities of the tiniest microscopic things in our universe were all created by Him. Debbie Lee

In his “Soldiers of the Cross” sermon, Charles Spurgeon said, “To be a Christian is to be a warrior. The good soldier of Jesus Christ must not expect to find ease in this world. It is a battlefield…the Holy Spirit wields no sword but the word of God…” Debbie Lee is truly one of those soldiers of the cross. Debbie’s youngest son Marc was the first Navy SEAL killed in action during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Debbie had already endured becoming a widow when she got the news that Marc had been killed. Hers is a heavy load that could cause a person’s faith to waiver. Debbie Lee instead turned to God for strength and has dedicated her life to helping others do the same. She founded a nonprofit called America's Mighty Warriors that provides services for our Troops, Veterans, and families of fallen soldiers. She has also become a surrogate mom to all Navy SEALs. When Marc died, Debbie said, "I knew God’s character, and it hadn't changed. My circumstances had drastically changed, but He was the same God on August second that he was on August first…"
